What is “Life”? Tremendous numbers of chemical reactions occur in cells. However, simply gathering those reactions cannot create life. How can the accumulation of chemical reactions become life? This is one of the greatest propositions of life science. Since I was a student, I have been fascinated by this chemical reaction and the wonders of life.
We study life sciences, including the principles of life, function and regulation of biomolecules, development of new reagents and methods, from the perspective of Chemistry. Our main targets are Tumor Suppressor Protein p53, various PPM family phosphatases, and RNAs and polypeptides of E. coli. For the study, we have adopted a wide variety of techniques and methods such as biophysics, structural biology, bioinformatics and nanotechnology as well as biochemistry, molecular biology and cell biology.
